The State of Rhode Island Department of Labor Elevator Inspection Section oversees all elevators in the State. The Elevator Safety section insures that all elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, wheelchair lifts, material lifts, conveyors and all other related devices are inspected on an annual basis. When these devices are found to be in a proper and safe working condition, the unit issues a certificate of operation.
The Elevator Section also enforces the statutes relating to the installation, construction, service, repair and investigation of all accident reports, complaint investigations, re-inspections, modernizations and reports of any malfunctioning devices.
